can I take my new bird out on its first day in my home?
can i take my bird out of its cage to play on its first day in my house or should i wait. i go straight forward with training, just grab it from its cage and start interacting with it. i don't wait for weeks and serve treats through the bars. it worked with my first bird and he knew me very soon. will it work on lovebirds?
are lovebird's bites more painful than cockatiel's bites?
You really should wait for at least a couple of days before you handle your new bird. hey need time to get adjusted to their new surroundings.
Imagine that you have just yourself being taken to a strange place, where you are not used to anything in the new surroundings and someone comes right up to you and starts to hug you, and you've never seen or met this person before. How would it make you feel? Moving to a new enivroment is very stressful to a bird, and no matter what the age of the bird, they CAN have a heartattack and die from the stress.
You can still interact with your new bird right away, just don't try to handle it. Especially if it is a lovebird.
Lovebirds do get mean, and yes, their bites do hurt much worse than a cockatiel's bite. Not to mention that a lovebird can take a bigger chunk out of you than a cockatiel will.
